I purchased this item for my 2000 audi A6 with bose stereo so i could install a pioneer head unit. when installed as directed, the speakers all emitted a high pitched alternator whine whether i was listening to the stereo or a cd. i knew the HU worked properly, and so did the factory stereo, so i checked the harness for possible fixes. i found no unwanted noises came through the speaker when, instead of hooking the rca adapters (on the harness) up to the preamp outputs (on the HU), i hooked the speaker level outputs (on the stereo) to the rca adapters (on the harness). so to fix the problem, i cut the RCA adapters off the harness, and soldered those wires directly to the speaker level outputs from the HU. now everything works and sounds great. I must admit, i expected more from metra. also – if you upgrade stereos, remember to get an antenna amplifier – audi doesn’t use whip antenna’s,and chances are your radio won’t amplify the signal enough (even in the city).

I just got this Dice Ipod Adapter for my 2003 Audi A4 and I can’t believe how easy it was to install. The hardest part was taking out my radio (which is pretty simple if you have the radio removal keys). Installing it was incredibly easy! The sound is amazing with my Ipod Touch and best of all it charges while I am listening to music. It may be a little pricey, but definitely worth it in my opinion!

Works great with my 2005.5 (B7 chassis) A4. Works with steering wheel controls. Doesn’t transmit song data to head unit, though.

Hardest part of install was getting the head unit out of the console–man, it was tight! I put in my glove box, which I took out to make the install a little easier.

The device was relatively easy to install in my 2007 Audi A3 with a concert radio (no disc changer). I had to sacrifice a coat hanger to make a hook to pull the cable through to the glove box. Otherwise, it was straight forward. Took about an hour. Would take a lot less for an experienced installer (a few minutes I would guess). You will need to buy the European radio removal tools also. If you buy from Crutchfield, they come for free, if you buy on Amazon, they are around . But, you still may get a better deal on Amazon if you shop around.

It charges the 3G iPhone too. However, it will not pass the text display to the radio (for any iPod/iPhone), which can make navigation tricky. Dice tells me they will be making a new version for the Audi later this year, which will use the Sat output, rather than the CD changer output from the radio, and that this will allow the text display. It may be worth it to wait for that one. However, there are different modes – if you want, you can run it not controlled via the car radio, and just use the audio out form your iPod and control it from the iPod. But, you lose audio quality and you lose the ability to switch tracks etc. from the steering wheel controls, which is great to have while driving. The device allows you to browse your iPod/iPhone by the categories:

CD1 = Track #

CD2 = Playlist

CD3 = Album

It would be a great improvement to add an “artist” sort to this also. Overall, this product does what the company told me it would do, and I am happy with it. I will probably replace it when the next version comes out with the text display though.
