Audi R8 e-tron footage

Audi has announced plans to launch the R8 e-tron in late 2012. Set to battle the Mercedes SLS AMG E-cell, the R8 features four asynchronous electric motors which produce 230 kW (308 hp / 313 PS) and 4500 Nm (3319 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the electric supercar to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Power comes from a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery which sits directly behind the passenger compartment. Thanks to this layout, the R8 e-tron has 42:58 weight distribution which is identical to the R8 5.2 FSI. Furthermore, the 550 kg (1213 lb) battery stores 53 KWh of energy which enables the car to have a range of up to 250 km (155 miles). Once depleted, the battery can be recharged in six to eight hours with a standard household outlet or two and a half hours with a rapid charger. Those fearing the R8′s stellar handling will be ruined, can rest assured as Audi informs us the car weighs 1600 kg (3527 lb) and has a 70% rear power basis. However, when a slip occurs, power can be sent to the individual wheels with the most traction. A further extension of this can be seen in the car’s torque vectoring capability which allows for “elective acceleration of individual wheels and therefore active distribution of torque.” Audi contends that this will virtually eliminate the effects of oversteer and understeer. www.worldcarfans.com

@bloximonkey OMG electric cars are slow? I’m afraid you’re just behind the times lol search for Tesla Roadster and notice that R8 e-tron will be even better.

all this R8 e-tron need is better battery pack like one from Tesla Model S. The rest is perfect (power, AWD, weight distribution etc.) just like in oryginal R8, so handling should be perfect :) and finally I really like that it looks just like the petrol version, because the first e-tron concept from 2009 was ugly as hell.

@torerobohoyo drifting has nothing to do with the engine… -.- plus a 4WD isn’t the best drifting car best way to drift is with a rear wheel drive

How stupid is that. You make your audi grey and printed yellow words on the doors. If you wanna go fast just don’t consider electric cars.

@marthatesyou Their mic seems to be set to ridiculous sensitivity, i imagine the guys filming that couldn’t keep from breathing audibly. If you listen closely, you’ll also notice that they loop a lot of the audio, so weird sounds repeat.
