Audi A5 Cabriolet – Instant Impression
The cabriolet version of the Audi A5 is very nice car with all the amenities you could think of–and it has the price tag to prove it. But there’s one “glaring” problem that makes the vehicle very frustrating.

he looks like Mickey Rooney’s young brother
@jimpodi Good point.
@GymProv i agree with you. the 335i is a much better bargain than the 328i. i myself still would prefer the audi due to its tight grip feeling on the road (quattro). anyway, just a matter of preference.
@jimpodi I’d still buy the BMW before the Audi. Don’t get me wrong, I like the A5. I’d just rather have the BMW even if it costs more. I’m not a fan of the 4cyl turbo, and the retractable hardtop is a selling point for me. I would probably opt for the 335i over the 328i, which puts the 3 series in the mid 60s, making your choice very attractive. The Audi is a great car for the money, no doubt.
@GymProv the bmw 328i conv starts at $45K, so with all options, it will cost about the same as the audi. 0-60mph in 6.7 sec applies to both cars, but the audi has better fuel consumption due to its 4 cyl turbo. the time it takes for the top to open and close is much shorter for the audi. there is so much more space in the back trunk for the audi. most important, the audi looks better with better quality materials interior wise.
I have this car. A 2010 Audi A5 Cabriolet with pretty much every feature available. The screen can be adjusted in the MMI Settings. So, really, its not a problem. Plus, there is a secondary display for the MMI Info in the Drivers Info Screen ( in between the Speedometer and other Dials). No problems at all with this car. Its quiet, practical (for a cab), and pretty good looking. We love it! We live in SF near the Golden Gate Bridge and have re-discovered the joy of open-top driving! Ken
oh shit. hes right, i love audi, but this is a problem
$56,000 with a rag top and a 4cy turbo? Give me the 328i convertible any day. 6cyl, retractable hardtop, better resale value.
Sorry Audi, nice car, but I’d pay more for the BMW.
My Prius has similar problems with the screen. If you turn on the headlights during the daytime, the screen dims. You can override this, but it is annoying. For a many years now I have an HP iPAQ (handheld computer) that auto-adjusts the screen brightness based on a light sensor. it works great. I don’t know why this isn’t standard. It should be more than just 2 settings (bright and dim). It needs to be variable.
@bigretardhalo Yes. Thats all they need to do. With my mazda, the computer automatically dims the screen at night by using the sensor for the auto headlights. Its super bright during the day and at night it dims automatically
@chorstma44 I noticed that too… but maybe they did it because they share the screens across the lines and realised they were too dim for the convertible. Hopefully they are working on a brighter one, and adding a sensor to control screen brightness might not be a bad idea either. A screen that is bright at night can be just as annoying.
I hate Audi because most of it car are not reliable and look too much a like.
Got to pay 50K to get a nice roof liner? wtf?
Very nice car. As you can see that audi has put thought into the screen. It is further in te dash and has a overhang. But onething I have discovered with screens in a car is they have to be very bright. Thats all. There might be a way to adjust the brightness
