Ford Hemp Car

July 18th, 2010 25 comments

Old archival footage of Ford’s 1941 hemp car. I got a recent brochure from Ford and in the eco-friendly section it says they are using hemp again. Didn’t say which models or what exact parts would be hemp but hey, there’s hope yet.

UIF-U280 VW and Audi OBDII Scan Tool

July 18th, 2010 No comments

Product Features:

  • 16-pin OBDII standard socket which works with VW, Audi, and Skoda
  • Performs continuous DTC scan
  • Reads and erases Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) of Engine, ABS, Airbags and Automatic Transmission
  • User manual contains VW/AUDI Diagnostic Trouble Code Definitions

The U280 is great for DIYers. With a U280, you can quickly scan your engine to find trouble codes on electronically controlled systems on your car. Simply connect the scanner using the OBDII diagnostic socket on your Audi, VW, or Skoda, read the trouble code (DTC) shown on U280, and identify and locate the causes of the trouble codes using the user manual which contains a decoder for the DTCs.

Bought this when I found I had an alternative to VAG software that would only run on PC’s and the expensive cable to connect to the VW’s port.

For the price its great.

I’m not a mechanic but it helps me determine if that CEL is something I need to take care of immediately, or its the simple ‘gas cap’ warning.

Buy it, keep it in your VW/Audi.

I have tried this scanner on all types of volkswagens and it will read them all no matter where they are made. This is not like other scan tools which can only read vw made for the US market only.

The scanner functions well & helps me diagnose & clear codes from my ’01 Beetle.

The literature that it came with is insufficient at best. It didn’t include all of the codes & the step-by-step instructions didn’t match the commands programmed into the machine.

I figured it out & googled the missing codes, but that was a little concerning. The literature reads like it’s written by someone who’s not a native English speaker.

I would still recommend the product for the price & the ability.
